Ken Russell

Happy Birthday Ken Russell, director of some of the most influential horror films of the 70’s and 80’s, most notably the sex crazed demon possessed nun classic The Devils (’71) which launched a whole new wave of countless nunsploitation… also Altered States (’80), Gothic (’86), The Lair of the White Worm (’86), and of course the popular rock musical Tommy (’75.) Born this day in Southampton, Hampshire, England in 1927.

Happy birthday, Mr. Russell!

"The Devils" angles for a top spot on the Tenebrous Top Ten Movies list. I will pour one out on the curb for his Ken-ness this very evening.

I love his twisted films, especially "Lair of the White Worm." He had far too much fun with Freudian Symbolism.

Cinema has been blessed by his mad and glorious visions. A TRUE original!

Ken Russel--artist, visionary, thumbsucker.

Happy birthday to the father of Nunsploitation. Where would we be without it?

Is he sucking his thumb or giving the Italian equivalent to the finger?

Glad to see we have some Ken Russell fans here. I insist that tonight at midnight everyone simultaneously shoot a moutful of venom onto a wall crucifix in celebration!

Venom? :)

lol, great LotWW reference. Sadly, I have neither venom nor a wall crucifix. Can I just devolve after mixing drugs ans sensory deprivation?

Yes. Devolve... you've actually proven your de-evolution with your words about Creepshow over at Quasar Dragon. A most wise place to admit such a thing as here you would likely not survive the night.

>Venom?

Vicar, thou can shoot whatever thou wishes upon thy wall cross, the dirtier and more blasphemous the better actually...
