Werewolves of the Rockies / In the Wake of the Werewolf

It's been awhile since we've allowed the werewolves to run rampant around here at THOIA, so load up the silver bullets and awaaaay we go! Our first action packed ACG tale is from the May 1953 issue of Forbidden Worlds #17, and features a very nifty set-up and isolated setting... followed by an eerie Sam Kweskin Atlas classic from the May 1953 issue of Mystic #20.

I love werewolves and I love stories where there's a disclaimer at the beginning about "facts" (about werewolves...) and fictitious names, and then they set it in a remote location from which the characters can't escape -- you can't lose. So the first one was charming fun. Second one was good fun, too.

Nice double feature! First one is a classic, and without the cover there to give away the ending, hopefully a little more suspenseful. I always wanted a sequel. Second one is not nearly as memorable but brand new to me. Hooray!

GOTTA LOVE A SUNDAY PACKED WITH SHE WOLVES!!!! I WAS SURPRISED THE ACG TALE WAS MORE ENGAGING THAN THE ATLAS TALE AND I LIKED THE ART BETTER TOO BUT STILL BOTH WERE GREAT!

Oh man. Werewolf day at THOIA is my favorite day of the year.

I'm skeptical about the method being used to build that rope bridge in the first story. Or possibly I'm skeptical about the need for a rope bridge in the first place if they can cross that gap just to build it. Also, werewolves or not, aren't the train passengers just as badly off at the end of the story as they are at the beginning? Well no, now there's a deserted werewolf town for them to live in, I guess.

That is if they can escape the horrifying CHAMPION SKI WOLVES!

The last panels of both stories are priceless!

"The Horrifying Champion Ski Wolves!" would be the best movie ever. Or the second or third best band ever. ("Werewolves on Water Skis" would not.)

I imagine if champion skiers were disqualified for turning out to be werewolves, lawsuits would persist for years to come.

OMG! The drawing of the werewolf in the final panel is soooo cool! I wonder what he'd look like with a piece of bacon in his mouth?

And if there are supposedly so many werewolves in the North, how comes I hasen't seened any?

Haha! But surely you mean "SHE!"

Well, ya gottta give Larry credit for doing a legitimate good deed before becoming purina wolf-chow. Not often you see criminals in stories like these set up to 'deserve' their fate do somenthing decent.

I love the ending of the first story. Her expression makes it look like she just wants to suprise him for shits & giggles.

Loved the art, looks like Kweskin's usual style, but the inking looks odd.
